Joe Grant Tribute

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

I was fortunate this evening to head over to the Joe Grant tribute at the Alex theatre in Glendale. I got tickets from Jerry at Cartoonbrew.com simply for spotting his post and being one of the first to respond. The tribute was hosted by Lenord Maltin, and was part interview, part film clip retrospective and […]

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Without hearing back from my mentor yet, I am going in and starting to block the arms. Arms have there own little troubles. The first being the hands. Hands are hard to draw, and no easier to pose. This Stewie model has a mittin for the main hand, a pointer finger and a thumb. I’m […]

Assignment 1: Finished Blocking– Legs and Spine

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

YES! finally I am finished the blocking for this walk. I am actually really happy with it although it still has too many keys and is probably over polished. I really went in and was fussing with the splines to work out the spine and shoulders. It’s posted on the Gallery Page.

Switching Rigs.

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

Today I spent a bit of time trying to switch over to the new model. I tried copying keys this way and copying that way. The best way I found was to import the old file and piece by piece copy keys from one model over to the other. This places two character right on […]

Pain In The Neck

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

So I awoke today to this. This doesn’t look real good. It seems like many of my files have been corrupted. I just checked and there is a problem with the model. there is a new updated model, but I’m not sure how to transfer over the animation keys.

Key Crazy

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

It seems I’ve gone a little key crazy. I was fussing with the feet for a good long bit today. Then I moved on to the hips again. I hadn’t touched the spine. I posed some thoughts on the forum about needing curves. Our assignment is to do our blocking in stepped mode. now stepped […]

Well The last thing wasn’t working out. I still have some time, so I ditched it. I worked out a Flash version of the walk. this came out ok. I’ll post it in the new gallery. I also started this time in Maya by working out main poses in with the greasePencil. The grease pencil […]

Class B: Week1

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Our assignment this week is to do the blocking of a personality walk. I recorded some reference Sunday and already posted on my workspace at the school site. Last Term I went a bit extreme with some things that I couldn’t handle in the alloted time, so I chose a more relaxed walk, and am […]

New Stu

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

I was too excited after the Q/A and I had to get cracking and think through my walk a little. So I dug out the new Stu model, and it’s so versatile, and moveable. This is animators paradise. There are controls on the feet even to rotate the leg along the ball of the heel, […]

Global Q/A With Bobby, Shawn and Carlos

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Tonight was our Welcome to Term 2; Global Q/A. The AnimationMentor Q/A system has a video and chat feed where students can talk to a moderator. This was an ‘All school’ event so there must have been around 350 chatters and video feed into one network. This caused a bit of a drag towards the […]

CLASS 2: Body Mechanics

Monday, June 20th, 2005

This morning I hopped online and downloaded the Syllabus for Class 2 of animationMentor.com. Let’s just say, I’m going to be busy. This class seems to really dig in an explain the animation principles at a much higher degree. It also looks to be pushing us into the acting portion of the animation training. This […]

Week 12 — The End of the Beginning

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

Well. For AnimationMentor.com this week is a bit of a break. OUr video Lecture was about walking with different weights, something I wish we could have gotten more into. I think back to my own animation clss, and wonder now and again if I should bring back the fat man wlks that we used to […]

Art Institute–Terms End.

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

Tonight I finished teaching the last class of this term at The Art Institute. Wednesday had been my storyboard classes, and the work is tough. Student’s presented their Final projects. Many of them did quite well, making a clear chace scene and following the correct dialog rules. A number of students didn’t finish the final […]

Sneaking in Perspective

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

Ugggg. This weeks animation was to take our previous animation and revise it, adding traslates for the x to get the anim in a perspective view.I went though and moved the weight, so the character wont fall over, and I tried to be less jerky about the splines. I went through a big period of […]

In Balance

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

This week is about Balance.Balance in walk cycles. Balance in poses.Balance in life.

Back-Blogging

Thursday, June 9th, 2005

I have neglected my blog. Swamped with school and school and sleep; getting assignments, giving assignments doing assignments. It’s the first thing to be neglected, after the cleanliness of my drawing table. That’s right, on the last few posts under this one, the dates have been changed to preserve the hidden fact that they […]

Sneaky

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

This weekend I worked out the walk I wanted to do. Our assignment is to do a walk with personality. I have always wanted to animate a nice classic sneak pose and just haven’t taken the oppertunity. So, knowing full well that many of the animation classmates would be working out a sneak, I have […]

Exhausted Stu

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

This week we had to pose Stu in some type of Exhausted pose. After some really awful sketches, I chose this type of pose; one which I remember fondly during the marathon training last year. You are really not supposed to just stop, you have to kind of cool off by walking around and looking […]

Revisions Revisions

Saturday, June 4th, 2005

I have almost been stuck on the revision of the turn animation, that I had yet to start my personality walk. All of Saturday was dedicated to fixing the timing and making revisions on the walk cycle and the turn animation. Both are better now. I’m not quite happy with the turn revision yet, there […]
